FOUNDING COHORT Ā· STARTS NOVEMBER 3

- Four live Q&A sessions on Thursdays at 10am PT, with questions submitted in advance
- Up to four bonus expert guest sessions on Thursdays, unlocked as enrollment grows (experts to be announced)
- Recordings added to your course library, so you can catch up anytime
- Practical resources to use before, during and after IEP meetings
- A founding cohort of no more than 40 parents
Teaching on Tuesdays, Q&A on Thursdays, both at 10am PT. Starts Tuesday, November 3. Founding price.
This will not just be a generic overview of IEPs.
There are a million of those. I'm building this to provide something different.
It's the course that only I can teach.
That means you will learn everything you need to understand the process and your rights. But you will also learn what I know from having trained IEP teams, led special education systems, reviewed complex cases, and participated in district-level decisions.
I have worked as a school psychologist, dispute resolution coordinator, and a special education director. I have advised districts about whether to file for due process. (I'm also the parent of an autistic child currently navigating the IEP system.)
I'm using all of my experience to help parents understand:
- What the IEP process requires
- How districts often approach decisions in practice
- What to look for in documents and meetings
- What questions to ask
- What to do when it feels like there's more to the story
You will learn not only how to understand the IEP document, but also how decisions are made, what may be influencing them, and what you can do next.
What makes this course different
A district's stated reason is not always the only factor driving a decision.
That does not mean assuming bad intent. It means learning to distinguish among:
- Your child's individualized needs
- Legal or procedural requirements
- Disagreements about the data
- Staffing or scheduling limitations
- Budget or program constraints
- Local practices being presented as requirements
Each session will address 4 questions
How is this supposed to work?
What the law requires and what an individualized, educationally meaningful process should look like.
What often happens in practice?
How schools and districts commonly approach it, including the realities that can influence decisions.
What should parents watch for?
Vague language, missing information, common pitfalls, and explanations that do not tell the whole story.
What can parents do next?
Specific questions to ask, requests to make, information to document, and options to consider.
What the course will cover
- Week 1: The IEP process and your role as an equal team member
- Week 2: Evaluations and eligibility
- Week 3: Present levels and parent concerns
- Week 4: Meaningful and measurable IEP goals
- Week 5: Services, supports, and accommodations
- Week 6: Placement, inclusion, and least restrictive environment
- Week 7: Participating in the IEP meeting
- Week 8: When you disagree and what happens next
Parent rights are covered throughout the course.
Bonus expert guest sessions
The more parents who join the founding cohort, the more we add.
For every 5 parents who enroll beyond 20, I'll add an expert guest session on a Thursday, up to four. At 25, 30, 35 and 40 enrolled, another guest session is added. Guest experts will be announced.
I want this to be accessible.
I want this course to be accessible to everyone who wants to be part of it, which is why there is a payment option. I'm hoping to fill all 40 founding spots, because founding participants will help me shape the course through their questions and feedback. In return, they receive the lowest price I plan to offer for this live experience.
