Finding a Voice: Including AAC in the IEP

I'M READY! SAVE MY SPOT!

In this Masterclass, you'll learn how to:

1

Gain Clarity on What AAC Is and Why It Matters

AAC, or Augmentative and Alternative Communication, is any tool or strategy that helps a person communicate when speech is difficult. From gestures and picture boards to robust speech-generating devices, AAC gives students a voice.

In this session, you’ll learn how AAC supports language development, builds social connection, and allows every child to express their thoughts, needs, and personality. You’ll leave with a clear understanding of what AAC really is and how it can transform a student’s ability to learn and connect.

2

Learn How to Include AAC Supports in Your Child’s IEP

Many IEP teams want to help but aren’t sure how to include AAC supports appropriately. This training walks you step-by-step through the process of documenting AAC in the IEP. We'll cover evaluations, goals, services, and accommodations.

You’ll see real examples of effective IEP language and learn how to ensure AAC supports are not an afterthought, but an integral part of your child's access to communication and learning.

3

Learn Language and Build Confidence to Advocate

Advocacy is most powerful when grounded in the right words and a clear purpose.

You’ll gain practical scripts, key phrases, and confidence-building strategies you can use in meetings with educators and administrators. Whether you’re a parent seeking support for your child or an educator guiding families, you’ll leave ready to speak up for communication as a right, not a privilege.

Turn Awareness Into Action: How to Make AAC Part of Your Child’s IEP

Empower yourself with the knowledge and confidence to ensure every child has a voice. In this focused training, you’ll learn how to identify communication needs, include AAC supports in the IEP, and advocate effectively for meaningful access to learning. A Note From Diana...

I started this work over 20 years ago. I wish I'd been able to tell parents then what I know now...

I have been in thousands of IEP meetings, written and reviewed hundreds of psychoeducational assessments, and participated in due process filings and settlement agreements. Over time, I have learned more and more about the importance of AAC and ensuring that students can use their voice in whatever way they can.

My mission is for everyone at the IEP table—parents, teachers, district staff, lawyers, and advocates—to be on the same page. Students with disabilities have the right to a meaningful education, and we all share responsibility for protecting that right.

Parents need access to clear, reliable information to support their child in school. I am here to make that information easier to understand and put into action, so every child has the opportunity to communicate and connect.

Your journey to confident AAC advocacy starts right here. I look forward to seeing you in the training.

All my best,
Diana
